Do missions beat loss-back on day one

Curious if mission-style onboarding outperforms simple day-one loss-back for new players… In our June cohort (n=1,180), a 15% loss-back capped at $50 drove a 12% lift in D7 return vs a 30-spin mission, but ARPU stayed flat; wondering if we mis-timed the reward or under-tuned feedback loops. If you’ve tested similar, what mechanic moved your first-session engagement the most?

Did you surface mission progress pre-deposit, or only after first wager? In our June test, missions beat loss-back when the first reward hit inside 3–5 minutes; turning the “30-spin mission” into a 3-step ladder with a 60–90s progress ping and a small free spins bundle on step one lifted first-session completes about 18% and nudged D7 ARPU about 5%. If your 15%/$50 only triggers post-session, unlock a micro reward at spin 10 and defer loss-back to session 2.

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌

We saw your 15%/$50 setup behave similarly until we split the 30-spin task into two checkpoints; giving a small guaranteed drop at spin 12 (e.g., 5 free spins on the same title) plus a “you’re 60% there” toast lifted first-session completion and D7 by about 6% without shifting ARPU. @OP have you tried a mid-mission reward instead of retuning the feedback loops?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌

Quick example: moving the first checkpoint to a time-based trigger (90–120s) and routing the initial plays to a low-volatility title gave us a about 9% D1 session count bump without shifting ARPU; the “mis-timed the reward” bit was usually the culprit. I’d drop a guaranteed $2 site credit or quick wheel reveal right then — snack before the main course — and push the bigger reward to completion later. Caveat: watch stake compression in that window; were your first few plays on higher-var titles or a mixed lobby?

I’ve noticed that setting a high engagement moment right after a player’s first spin can make a huge difference. If they feel rewarded instantly, it can hook them for longer. Have you tried adjusting the timing on that early reward to see if it affects overall satisfaction?
